Karndean is a comprehensive collection of luxury vinyl flooring. Now a global brand, it is produced in the UK by a family company, Karndean Designflooring, founded in 1973.
The Karndean collection combines the natural beauty of wood and stone with cutting-edge design.
Its many styles are drawn from timber and rock surfaces around the world. Karndean luxury vinyl is also:
The Karndean choice is vast, but it falls into three product types, all available from TC Matthews branches. The three categories are: gluedown vinyl tiles and planks that require professional installation, and two ranges that use an inter-locking fitting system. LooseLay and Rigid core are quick and easy to install, though Karndean advises that expert fitters are used to achieve the best results with all its products.
• KARNDEAN GLUEDOWN VINYL
You’re spoilt for choice with a host of styles – with wood, stone and abstract effects – as well as colours and textures, and many options for design strips and borders to personalise your installation.
There’s also a range of price points to suit different budgets. Tiles are 2.5-3mm thick, with a wearing layer of 0.55-0.7mm.
As these individual tiles and planks are stuck down with adhesive, the subfloor must be flat, smooth and dry.

• KARNDEAN LOOSELAY VINYL
This Karndean range can be installed over most existing hard floors, and it should be a relatively quick and easy operation.
Karndean LooseLay vinyl tiles and planks also come in a variety of styles for both wood and stone effects.
This type of tile – typically 4.5mm thick – does not require an expansion gap, and is said to be reduce noise transfer by 13dB.
ª KARNDEAN RIGID CORE VINYL
With a dozen attractive wood finishes to choose from, this range of Karndean vinyl is also quick and easy to install, thanks partly to its Korlok click-locking system.
With a thicker core and pre-attached backing, the 6.5mm-thick tiles and planks offer greater acoustic damping – up to 19dB. The Korlok range helps hide imperfections in existing hard subfloors, but requires an expansion gap of 5mm.

With so many styles to choose from, where do you start?
The best option is to decide first whether you want a wood look or stone. Then you need to ensure the products are suitable for the space in your home – whether that’s a kitchen or bathroom, or living areas or hallways. Our branch teams will be happy to advise you and arrange samples for you to view at home.
In terms of costs, the new Heritage collection is top of the gluedown ranges, while Knight Tile is the most economical. We’ve listed the collection in this order. Similarly, Korlok’s qualities command a higher price, than Looselay longboards and standard tiles, respectively.
